Three Hidden Costs of Replacing Your Commercial Roof

When it comes to replacing your commercial or industrial roof, many people don’t realize there are “hidden costs”.  It’s not that we think commercial roofers are trying to scam anyone, but rather, there are some additional costs associated with a new roof beyond the cost of labor and materials.

Permits and Inspections

You may already know about permit and inspections, but keep in mind, there will be added time/cost to your project to get a permit (anywhere from days-weeks depending) and then once your project is finalized, it will require an inspection to sign it off.

What many people don’t realize is that roof coatings require neither. Permits are not required and therefore we aren’t waiting on anyone or anything to start work on your roof (except the weather) and we do our own quality assurance once the job is done.

Disposal of Old Roofing Materials

Replacing a commercial or industrial roof will generate a ton of trash. We’re talking several dumpsters worth of waste which will require renting dumpsters on top of the existing costs.

In roof coatings, very little waste is removed and we certainly don’t create the amount of environmental waste common in commercial roof replacement.

Business Disruption

Preparing your business for a new commercial roof is extremely disruptive. Lots of loud construction noise going on while trying to run your operations with several instances of your building being exposed to the elements. We’ve talked about how hard it is for an industrial food plant to undergo a new roof installation and still keep their facility hygienic (hint: it’s really hard!)

Not to mention the disruption can halt operations and result in lost revenue. With roof coatings, there is virtually no disruption at all and therefore much more convenient for business owners.

Summary

Sometimes it is necessary to replace your commercial or industrial roof because it is beyond repair, however, in most instance a roof coating can be a great alternative.

If the added hidden costs have you concerned, we’d be happy to look at your roof to see if it would be a great candidate for roof coatings. Call us at (402) 289-7869 for your free roof inspection!
